Springtime Chores

I started this blog with the hope of recording my swirling thoughts. There are so many things I’d like to work on, and I’m a list maker by nature, so this seems like a natural next step. Since I’m not mentioning this blog to anyone I know, I am planning on this being an electronic journal. It will be a place I can return to time and time again to track my progress and record my thoughts.

As you can see by my photo, gardening is definitely high up there on my to-do list.  Since this photo was taken, we’ve been able to finish filling the veggie garden and I’ve gotten most of the veggies planted. I plan on tracking what produce comes out of the garden and what I am able to do with it.

Right now, I am definitely in the preparation and anticipation stage. We had a smaller 8’x8′ garden last year and had planted several apple trees the year before. Last year was my first year water bath canning. I’m not sure if I’m going to advance to pressure canning this year or not.

This year, the 8’x8′ raised bed garden has been extended and now totals 24’x8′. We also added a cherry tree this year.

Right now, my husband is in the middle of adding a patch of ground for strawberries and asparagus. Just tonight, he attached a 4’x4′ section to the raised bed that I will devote to herbs.

We are also updating a corner of the front yard. We had laid landscape cloth and mulched a couple years ago, and it needed updating. We’ve removed the mulch and old cloth, but I didn’t think to take before photos.

I think that’s enough for one night. Tomorrow we’ll work on planting a couple lilies, a couple planters, the strawberries and asparagus, as well as the herb patch. I’ll do better with photos next time!
